Boats for buoy hunting

You don’t need a boat to buoy hunt, but if you’re going to hunt from the water get a boat that’s safe for the type of water you’re in and tough enough for landings in the places you’re likely to find buoys. It’s also gotta look good.

For ocean buoy hunting, the best choice is a kayak (preferably a sit-on-top style, which allows quick boarding from a beach). It needs enough deck or hatch space to carry the buoys you’re likely to find, so the better you are, the bigger your kayak should be.

For lakes or rivers, an aluminum-hulled boat works well. If using an aluminum boat, remember to store it properly to avoid flooding or sinking during heavy rains: clip the hull upside down when not in use.
